For almost two years, Jup Jup Thai Restaurant became known in Ludlow for its warm hospitality, authentic flavours, and the passionate chefs at the heart of the kitchen. Today, that story enters a new chapter with Mahar Thai - a name that reflects the restaurant returning to its roots and the people who helped build it from the very beginning.

At Mahar Thai, the kitchen continues to be led by the original chefs whose dedication, experience, and deep respect for traditional Thai cooking shaped what guests came to love about Jup Jup. More than just a team, they are a close-knit family who believe great food brings people together, and every dish is prepared with that same care and authenticity.

Blending time-honoured Thai techniques with carefully sourced local and imported ingredients, Mahar Thai continues to serve the vibrant curries, comforting noodles, fresh stir fries, and beautifully balanced starters that made Jup Jup an OpenTable Diners’ Top Pick throughout much of 2025.

While the name is changing, the heart of the restaurant remains the same - authentic Thai food, created by the chefs who inspired it all.

Our Chefs

Mon

With over 40 years of experience, Head Chef Mon brings authentic Thai food to Ludlow, Shropshire. Trained in Chiang Mai, Thailand, he specialises in traditional Thai curries and stir fries, using classic techniques and carefully sourced local and imported ingredients. His cooking has been recognised nationally, including work featured on Gordon Ramsay’s Best Restaurant.

Moe Moe

Chef and co-owner Moe Moe brings over 20 years of experience creating authentic Thai cuisine in Ludlow, Shropshire. Having built her journey in the kitchen from the ground up, she is known for her comforting Thai noodle dishes, dedication to traditional cooking, and the passion that helped shape Jup Jup into one of Shropshire’s most loved Thai restaurants. Now, as one of the owners of Mahar Thai, she continues to lead the kitchen with the same authenticity, warmth, and care that guests have come to know and love.

With more than 20 years of experience, Chef de Partie San San specialises in Thai starters and sides at Jup Jup Thai Restaurant and Bar in Ludlow. Her comfort-focused cooking supports the authentic Thai flavours the restaurant is known for across Shropshire and the West Midlands.
