Our Story

When the much-loved Chang Thai in Ludlow closed after more than 20 years of service due to unexpected building works, it left more than an empty space in the town. Three talented Thai and Burmese chefs were suddenly facing the loss of their jobs - and for two of them, their home as well.

For Anthony (co-founder), this was deeply personal. He had been raised by two of those chefs since childhood, and they were family in every sense of the word. Faced with losing not just a restaurant, but a way of life and shared history, Anthony turned to his partner Kelly (co-founder). That same day, they knew they had to do something.

Within just three months of Chang Thai closing, they found a new home on 6 Tower Street, Ludlow, Shropshire. What was once an English breakfast café was carefully transformed, rebuilt with respect for the people and the authentic Thai food that had meant so much to the local community. In August 2024, Jup Jup Thai Restaurant and Bar opened its doors.

The name Jup Jup comes from the Thai words meaning “kiss kiss” - a simple expression of affection. It reflects what we believe food should be: warm, generous, and shared. Jup Jup is about enjoying authentic Thai cuisine together, creating meaningful moments, and sharing a lovely experience with the people you love.

Today, the soul of Chang Thai lives on at Jup Jup. The same familiar faces, time-honoured recipes, and commitment to honest, heartfelt Thai cooking continue to welcome guests from Ludlow and beyond.

Jup Jup Thai Restaurant and Bar is more than a restaurant. It’s a family-run space built on community, tradition, and connection - a story we’re proud to carry forward.
